Happy Halloween BackTrackers! I've been away for far too long, haven't I XD ? I feel as though a celebration is in order though, as I've just survived the 30 work hours I had this week XD ! Job annoyances aside though, I do apologize for my extended absence. I'll explain more at the end of the log, but for now, here's a look at all the SpOoKy new additions!
-Fixed various "bugs"
-Tweaked certain graphics here and there
-Added a smooth intro animation to the title screen
-Added some more throwable objects to the Block Pit to spice it up a little bit more
-Added a brand new environment: The Desert! Push your way through the powerful sandstorms and searing heat on your quest to reach the goal! But it won't be easy; the sands are working against you!
-Added 3 Desert Levels
-Added 1 Boss Level. As the sunlight intensifies, and the sandstorm grows, you must take on an enemy unlike any other- One that moves!
-Added 3 new music tracks to the game, all of which can be found on my Soundcloud!
Don't forget to check out my Soundcloud @SpectralAves if you enjoy BackTrack's music!

Hello everyone! It's good to be back, at least for this brief moment XD . I've been very busy lately, and haven't had much time to do anything other than work or homework. I infact have a 4 page essay due tomorrow, which I still need to finish. And I'm sure you know about my 30 work hours from this week XD . Turns out, there was a massive scheduling error on my employer's part, and she scheduled me for double the time I usually work. I had little free time, and I actually finished this update last week, but haven't had any time to upload it until today XD . Hopefully that sheds some light on the situation for you, but I think that's enough explaining for one day. As always, thanks so much for the support, as it means a lot to me and my current stress level XD . But with that, I bid you farewell, and I'll see you in the comments!
(Shameless self-plug)
Also try my other game, Achnegeddon!

Where have you gone?
March 23, 2018
I really liked this and branched it to fix the thing where you can't go into the levels 😀😀😀
March 02, 2018
Hey, how are you lately? Going through my old stuff today, and I discovered that the project is broken!
November 20, 2017
For some reason when I try to play the easy levels, and the hard levels, the game wouldn’t start. It only works for the challenges
June 24, 2017
Is this still being worked on?
June 25, 2017
Well, kinda. I'm currently too busy with college to work on it, but I may get back to it at some point. I won't be giving up on it though; I've spend so much time on it, and I'm almost done with it anyway XD .
February 17, 2017
Nice game buddy 👍
November 15, 2016
I recommend a color choice for the slime
November 15, 2016
Have an update for Christmas
November 02, 2016
I didn't know people can make such great games
November 02, 2016
Awww I'm flattered...Thank you, that's very nice of you to say!
October 30, 2016
The desert is great! I really like the last boss level, though it could be a little glitchy. And I love how the character speeds up on the way back!
October 30, 2016
Thanks so much! I spent about 500 (figurative) years on this update, so I'm glad you like it!
I tested the boss level many times, and I couldn't find any glitches. But if you find anything major, please don't hesitate to tell me about it XD .
October 30, 2016
There're no actaul glitches - just lag. I would've told you right away!
October 30, 2016
Hello BackTrackers! It's been a while XD ! As celebration for this wonderful holiday, I bring you this update! It's a pretty big one, so hopefully it will keep you guys busy for a while. I hope you all enjoy this spooky update!
Also, my Soundcloud is now live :D ! Check me out @SpectralAves if you'd like !
August 17, 2016
Hello BackTrackers! Due to the newest hyperpad update's changes on the "Destroy Object" behavior, I had to fix every level and update for you guys to actually play it properly XD . It was going to be a surprise later, but these things happen, I suppose :| . Nonetheless, I hope you guys enjoy this small update!
August 02, 2016
In the 1.15 update, we made a change where if you destroy an object, it will not finish executing any timed behaviours. This breaks your play button because you are destroying the play button before your duration based behaviours are done executing.
A quick fix is to either not destroy the play button, or just move the destroy behaviour to execute after the particle is finished playing. Fill out the support form if you need more help with this.
August 03, 2016
Oh :| alright then! Hopefully there aren't any other similar issues, but I'll make sure this one gets fixed at least. Thanks for the heads up!
July 14, 2016
Great! It reminds me of Geometry Dash!
July 14, 2016
I get that a lot XD. I'm glad you like it!
July 08, 2016
This is a good game! Really addicting and creative. It reminded me of Jelly Escape.
July 08, 2016
Thanks so much :D ! I'm glad you like it! Some people aren't too fond of the difficulty (which is understandable XD), so it's always good to see some enjoyment!
July 05, 2016
Trial... Error... Trial... Error... XD
July 05, 2016
It sounds like you're talking about the boss XD.
July 05, 2016
Nope, I'm actaully talking about level 3 of hard... Trial... Error... Trial... Error... :) .
I'm also wondering if BackTrack was running slowly and if you had to delete some objects or modify any behaviors. I'm currently doing just that in "Exactly!"
July 05, 2016
Oooh gotcha. Well, I did make them difficult for a reason mwahaha!
Jokes aside, I haven't actually experienced much slowdown in the game's performance, except for the level screens. Both of them have so many save and load timers (about 10-12) that if I added any more, it would start lagging really bad XD. Every block in every level is assigned to a group so I wouldn't get any lag by having each object with its own behaviors.
July 05, 2016
Lol that's plain evil.
But, thanks!
Which iPad do you have? I have an iPad mini, so I'm wondering if that's the issue. If you have a different type than can you try it out for me?
July 05, 2016
I've got a 4th gen iPad, so it's definately one of the faster ones.
I would also be glad to test it out for you! Just send me a link if you'd like.
July 05, 2016
Ok thanks! In my next email response I'll send it out to you. I'm excited to see what you've done.
July 05, 2016
Sorry to say but the second boss doesn't work, and I can't click any levels over 5. It just won't load.
July 05, 2016
You mean in the Hard Levels? Well of course they don't work; I haven't put theme in yet XD.
Ive only got 1 boss out of 3 and 13 levels out of 20 finished.
July 05, 2016
Oh haha! Sorry! I didn't even realise. XD
July 05, 2016
You're all good haha. Now that you mention it, I should have put a little "Out of Commission" sign on the levels that's aren't finished. Well, that'll be in the next update then XD !
July 05, 2016
Haha alright. Sounds good! :D
July 04, 2016
I don't know who disliked... No sanity whatsoever... Here's what I think... That this is pretty AMAZING!
Here're my small suggestions:
I think you should tweak the pause buttons to match the screen the player is on - create a seperate overlays for each. If you're on "level select" there's no point in going back to level select. Also, now that there're two "level selects" you should add both of those onto the pause pop-up.
I thought you were going to add this in... It's be awesome if you could actaully save projects on the level creator. Also, if you can spawn underneath each object so that the dragging is infinite... That'd also be real amazing!
And that's it! I'm really impressed! I'm also excited that it'll be going to the App Store soon, though I'm not excited that their won't be as many updates... Nevertheless, I hope it does amazing and I'll make sure to get my friends hooked up on it as well XD!
July 04, 2016
Yay thanks so much dude! The next update with be focused more on making the level creator better. I will probably go pro soon, so that will open up more things for me to do! As I mentioned in the update log, I will also release the OST on soundcloud in order to branch the game out to the public.
I'm glad you mentioned this, because I forgot to include it in the update log XD, but the "Level Select" button on the mini-pause screen actually saves which Level Screen you were at last! I did this so I didn't have to put both of them on the mini-pause screen, and so I could save time. I've found only one issue with the Star-Rating Screen though. I meant to fix it before today, but I guess I forgot XD.
July 04, 2016
Great to hear! I thought I found 2 small, teeny problems... No it's perfectionate! Lol I'm waiting on your email now XD! Hope to hear from you soon!
July 05, 2016
Yea the game looks almost ready. Just polish it up as much as you possibly can (although it's already pretty polished).
July 05, 2016
Hey @RyanAndChad mind checking out my game "Exactly!" from like two weeks ago. Giving me some feedback?
July 06, 2016
Never mind, I got it all figured out :D.
July 04, 2016
This is awesome. Maybe redo some of the UI font. Some is pixelated and some isn't. You should make it all pixelated like the font on the menu screen.
July 04, 2016
Thanks so much :D ! I do eventually want to make custom font graphics for everything, but the selection of fonts is so limited and basic unless you're a pro member... I will eventually become a pro member though, so I will definately shift more focus on the fonts and displays!
July 04, 2016
I am now an official High School gratuate! Yaaaaay! I hope you guys enjoy the update, and keep an eye out for some special things in the future!
May 30, 2016
I would suggest spending some time on making this work with iPhone, then start thinking about publishing it to the App Store :). This game wouldn't be too difficult to make "Universal" project where it works on both iPhone and iPad with the same build.
Just something to think about.
May 30, 2016
Congrats on graduating! The game is coming along well!
May 30, 2016
*congrats on hopefully graduating
May 28, 2016
Sweet update! Glad to see you can tackle two projects at once productively and quickly!
The level creator now works! I was able to create a little something, though I must say it's a bit limited, and then I played. My one issue was that when I died the particles continually erupted and I kept respawning and restarting without a chance to do anything.
And it's nice hear some more unique soundtracks! They pursue the theme and very much add to the game! Keep at it, and I look forward to keep working with you soon!
May 28, 2016
Thanks MIkpad! I'm sorry I couldn't email you back... I've just been way busier than I expected.
Hopefully when this is done and over with, we can finally start working again XD. I will definately have more time during summer, and won't have to vigorously study for any finals (-_-) .
May 28, 2016
It's all fine. I'm on vacation right now anyway, and so I really wouldn't have had much time. With that said, I will be going away a lot, and we can build a schedule during the fall. Good luck on those finals!
April 28, 2016
Hi, I know you're currently working a lot on this project, but would you like yo work on a project togetether? If yes, then we can send it back and forth through e-mail, and either of us could update the game on the hub. I came up with a concept where you have to get to the top or side of the screen, and I've made 6 quick levels on my own. Let me know once you've made up your mind!
April 28, 2016
That sounds like a fantastic idea! Two minds work better than 1, and I think it would be really fun to make a dual-organized project! Currently, I'm holding off on BackTrack for a bit, as I want to wait for the next hyperpad update (if it's coming out any time soon). Now, I would give you my email here, but I don't want everyone else messaging me XD. Should we exchange via Gamepress Forums? If you have a profile on there, you could just message me. I have the same username there as I do here, so it shouldn't be very hard to find me.
April 28, 2016
That's great news!
Is Gamepress forums on Gamepress? I deleted the app after I looked over all my projects a few times... We may'be been able to use Hyperpad messenging, but that's a pro thing. I'm becoming a pro once the new update comes out and I'm done with the beta... What about you?
Also, I'm holding off on my project until the update as well. I was thinking that while one of us is working on the game for like two days, let's say, the other could work on their own individual project,o and f course, yours being "BackTrack" and mine being "Exactly!"
Let me know what you think about that and the messenging. I totally understand the public email thing lol.
April 28, 2016
The Gamepress Forums are actually on a website called "gamepressapp.com" I believe. I've been on there for a while, and it shouldn't be too hard to set up an account. sob That reminds me when Gamepress was still alive :( Those were good times XD. Anyway, I don't have the beta of the next version of hyperpad, and I don't really know when the next hyperpad update will come out anyway (though it will hopefully be soon).
Switching back and forth between our own projects and this new one is I really nice idea, and will definately work for me, schedule-wise.
April 28, 2016
That website is no longer available anymore :( . It tells me that there's a newer version of Gamepress called Hyperpad and directs me to Hyperpad's website. You said that you still use it often... Are you getting access to it another way, like not by url... I don't see why it would matter.
April 28, 2016
*Why the way you access it would matter. I'm trying to figure this out.
April 28, 2016
http://www.gamepressapp.com/forum/
This should work.
Sorry about not specifying this before XD.
April 28, 2016
Ok, I registered and logged in. I found you under the letter "S." How do I send you a message?
April 28, 2016
Go into the "user control panel", then "private messages", then "sent messages". Then hit NEWPM.
April 28, 2016
I sent my message out. Please tell me if you got it.
April 27, 2016
I'd give it a 10/10. The only advice I could suggest is using your own text instead of the default ones.
April 27, 2016
Why, thank you :D. That's a very nice thing to say! Another thing I really wanted to do was add custom fonts, but you can't do that unless you're a Pro member... I'm still pondering whether or not I should spend the $9 per month.
April 27, 2016
There's a much easier way!
Download any custom fonts/graphics app on the Apple Store
Create your font and save it to your photo album as you would with any custom graphics
Erase any white background
April 27, 2016
Erase any white backgrounds*
Upload to Hyperpad as an image
Replace the default text with your image
April 29, 2016
The problem with this method is that it makes all your graphics look terrible. The benefit of TTF fonts is that they are crisp and clean.
Erasing the background of text will rarely turn out nice.
This is also the idea of BM Fonts, which is why we moved away from them.
April 29, 2016
The idea was going for text that didn't need to change. I'm trying to think of how to word it properly.
In BackTrack, from what I see, there's text that's clearly default text from HyperPad. This isn't a bad thing, but I'm saying that instead of using this text, you could instead create a graphic of text saying something. It's frustrating to try and explain. I'll search for an example in one of my games and hopefully that'll help.
April 29, 2016
Got it. If you branch my game, Block It Elite, you can see that my "Start" button is a graphic, not text. Although I could have simply made it text, I made it a graphic that I think better suits the style.
It's a small detail, but it shows that you have a little more creativity in you, and some projects have a lot of default text in them.
April 27, 2016
How du u select multiple object in a collided!?
Please say it!
April 27, 2016
Well, you can't really select more objects on the collided behavior outside of the 2 options they give you, but you can use tags to select multiple groups of objects (though you can only do this for the right side option). In BackTrack, the player object has a behavior chain which uses multiple object tags. You can branch BackTrack and take a look if you'd like! Just go into the behaviors for any of the player objects and you will see the chain.
April 27, 2016
Thx!
April 27, 2016
Good update. It's a shame the editor doesn't have any of the new blocks, along with it being really glitchy for me. Also I can only move blocks horizontally. You should make it so I can move blocks any direction. I hope you do fix this. Thanks! Nice update!
April 27, 2016
I had too many problems with vertical and horizontal movement, so I just made it move horizontally, but on different vertical levels. What kinds of issues does it have? It works perfectly fine for me for some reason... I do appreciate the incite though.
April 27, 2016
The issues are:
-There are bugs. And I understand.
Just reply to this, and tell me exactly why you can't add in all directions, and I will look into it. I Amy not be a pro, (by that I mean the subscription) but I still know a lot of things, and even some secret things. :)
April 27, 2016
Thanks :). I just kindof wanted to make it simple, so I only made it move ony horizontally. Though I am experiencing none of the issues everyone else is having... sigh These types of things always happen to me with this app... I tried to release a game about a year ago, and right before I did, hyperpad updated with its new physics engine, which completely broke the game, never to be fixed again... And I fear the same has happened for BackTrack... Nonetheless, I do apprieciate your help, and I would like to know these "secrets" of yours. I will do whatever it takes to fix this darned game.
April 27, 2016
Could you please tell me what method you are using for the movement of the blocks? (Dragging and dropping)
April 27, 2016
They actually move via Move to Point, instead of Drag and Drop. Each block is controlled via While Touching, connected to a move to point with the x direction being set on the exact place your touching, and the y direction being set at a specific point at all times, giving the effect of it only moving horizontally.
April 27, 2016
Let me branch it. I'll see what I can do. If it works out, I will inform you. :)
April 26, 2016
I was wondering where you get your music or what app do you use to make it because I don't know where to find good music for my games
April 26, 2016
Every thing seems fine with me expect for the retry counter for when you make your own level
April 26, 2016
Oh! So it must be a beta issue then. Does the retry counter not work, or is just bugged?
April 26, 2016
It works fine for the levels you made but when I go into the level creator it doesn't work so I don't think it's bugged but I'm not completely sure
April 26, 2016
Ok. I just tried it, and the retry counter just flat out doesn't work XD. So, my bad. I should've checked that earlier. Nonetheless, thanks for commenting and telling me about the issue.
And by the way, I actually make all the music for BackTrack myself on a handy app called "DefleMask". It's completely free and can almost flawlessly replicate the sounds of old school systems like the NES, Game Boy, SEGA Genesis, PC-Engine, and more! It's a completely free app, and I would highly recommend it! If you want to start small though, I would recommend "Pulseboy". You can make simple, old school tracks with both of them.
April 26, 2016
Today I actually have some bad news :( . This update seems broken. Here're some glitches I found:
-The level creator doesn't work! I don't know what to do, if it's even working. I press on the square and it appears very small and not very visible on the bottom somewhere. I've tried pressing done, and nothing happens. There seems to be no way to get out of it, and overall, I'm sorry to say this, but I'm disappointed. Finally, I pressed pause and I saw only restart and continue. I closed it and the screen was still tinted. I don't know if this is an overlay glitch or yours, but I'd look into that.
-The screen is off-centered for the level select. It shows 1-7, I think and some other cut off stuff. This should be very fixable, hopefully.
-Finally, I don't see this new challenge level that you made. Can't find it anywhere!
Look forward to seeing all this stuff working, but right now... Man, good luck! I'd go over everything next time before publishing. Once I posted and it just took the player to an empty screen with a background, because I'd made the background using empty objects on Hyperpad.
April 26, 2016
Oh............ I'm really, really sorry about this... For some reason, it works perfectly fine for me; the level screen is in the right place, the challenge level is accessible, and the level creator works flawlessly... Are you sure that this happens every time? And what ios update are you using? Again, I'm really sorry that it's broken for you... Thanks so much for telling me this though. I'll wait and see if anyone else has these issues.
April 26, 2016
I have the same issue!
April 26, 2016
I'm having like all the exact problems as Mlkpad14
April 26, 2016
Oh god really?! I'm so sorry about this... Hold on, I'm going to update it again. I think this might be an upload error of some sort, as I was having issues while trying to upload it. Thanks so much for telling me.
April 26, 2016
I just updated it and removed the incredibly buggy pause button XD. There is now a small "Menu" button instead. Let me know if it works, or if it's still broken.
April 26, 2016
It seems the same to me....I'm doing the beta so maybe that's the problem?!
April 26, 2016
Wait, your using the beta of the next version of hyperpad? That's most likely what's causing it to act up.
April 26, 2016
Yes I am. @Murtaza is this from the beta?
April 26, 2016
I'm also using the beta! I had to fix the screen orientation on my game so that may be the reason! I don't know what would cause the level creator to act up though... That's strange... Maybe contact help and they'll help sort this problem...
April 26, 2016
Level editor works in the non beta. Will check if it's still a bug with the latest beta. Beta users can you send a feedback/bug report with details on what your seeing. Thanks.
April 30, 2016
The level editor issue was indeed a beta bug. It's been fixed, and the game runs fine in the beta :).
April 30, 2016
Yaaaay thank you Murtaza! You're a life saver, man :D!
April 30, 2016
I'm happy to take the credit, but Hamed's the one who fixed it ;)
April 26, 2016
Good afternoon BackTrackers! We've got an update today, and it's a BIG one. There is now a LEVEL CREATOR in the extras menu! Make your own levels, challenge your friends, and just mess around! Leave a comment if you find any bugs pertaining to it.
Also, we have almost 100 comments!!!!! Woohoo!
April 24, 2016
Almost 100 comments!
April 22, 2016
AWSOME game I say try mine
April 22, 2016
Hehe... I see you are currently in development of The Past. You have put the first 2 levels on BackTrack. But there not accessible unless you branch it... Sneaky Sneaky. Good luck!
April 22, 2016
Haha it seems as though you've found the old levels. When you branch BackTrack, you can see that there's 2 levels (labeled "level 5" and "level 6" I believe) that are actually old levels from back in February XD. I kept them in because they have good puzzles in them that I hope to implement in later levels. I might include them some time in the future though. "The Past" is a little mini-level you will be able to play which has BackTrack's old textures from back in November when I first released it XD. It's just a fun little blast-to-the-past thing I wanted to have in the extras menu. I will also eventually put a "Level Creator" in the extras menu as well, but that won't be for a while.
April 22, 2016
Yeah. Hopefully sooner though.
April 21, 2016
Mabye you could add in new modes. Like a ball that sticks onto things, or something like that.
April 17, 2016
Great game! I see this as something that could be successful should it be fully released to the App Store. It has a fun, simple, and addictive concept with great animation and simple pixel graphics. The only problems I found was that I got 5 stars on a level but it only showed in the results page I got 2, and the in-game pause button (Not the one hyperPad normally gives) didn't work when in level 6 or 7, I forget. Other than that, keep up the great work!
April 17, 2016
Thanks so much :D It's so good to see that people are still enjoying it, despite its increasing difficulty. And on the subject of that glitch, I am aware of it, but have no idea how to fix it XD. The glitch happens whenever you retry enough times to get less than 5 stars on any level, then quit to the level select screen. The entire game is messed up from that point on, until you quit to the hub and come back in... Im sorry about that... Nonetheless, I will continue to try and fix it. And thanks so much (again) for the support! It means a lot to me :D.
April 09, 2016
Hi again! I'm loving the new update, as always.
I have some very small reports and suggestion:
-it tells me that I got 5 stars on the results screen no matter how many I get. Don't know if you already knew this, but I'm putting it out there. On the levels screen, it shows the right amount of stars, just not on the results screen.
-Not a fan of text. Like Murtaza always says, you want the player to learn, even if you're helping them. Guide them in the right direction! I understand that! Just not with text! Part of the problem is that it don't fit very well, but I also doubt people will be reading it, and it doesn't seem very professional.
Well, that's it! One small suggestion and glitch that pretty much exaggerated, but I know you'll fix anyway. Can't wait for the next update!
April 09, 2016
Yeaaaahhh XD... I do I fact know of this glitch... Though it only occurs in certain situations. It usually happens whenever you're in a level, and decide to go back to the level select screen via pause button... The Star-Rating System freaks out, and gives you the same amount of stars every level. It also turns off certain sound effects and animations for some reason... I think it has to do with overlays, ans the way it directs you back to the level screen. I've tried to fix it, but I haven't had any luck... The best thing you can do if this occurs is to just restart the game. But I will continue to work on it.
The text thing is also something I've tried to fix for a while... But I can't think of any way to teach the player how the game works without text... You're right in the fact that it doesn't fit very well, and it's not exactly the most professional thing either XD. I will continue to work on it though, and as always, thanks so much for commenting! I greatly appreciate you're suggestions :D
April 09, 2016
I feel like our conversations are starting to go in cycles, if you know what I mean lol. As always, you're absolutely welcome and I'm glad to help!
April 09, 2016
Cycles? I guess your right XD. I always respond to every comment the same way; "thanks for commenting, yada yada, that's a good idea yada yada". But I wouldn't say it every time if I didn't mean it :D. Everyone always has awesome advice, gives so much support, and shares their ideas and opinions in such nice ways. Even though it might not seem like much to most people, It means so much to me. It sounds kindof sappy, but that's how I see it haha.
And it's not even on the App Store yet :| ...
April 09, 2016
Lol okay! I meant that and also like I'm giving you similar advice, you're telling me about similar things... I actually went back and took a look at the comments, and I was quite surprised with how much progress you made as well. Don't know why I did, but that's a whole another story
April 09, 2016
Haha yeah, it is very similar now that I look back at it. I came back to the game in early March, and now it's early April. That's like 70 comments and about 10 likes in only a month! The game is growing fast and it's weirding me out XD !
April 08, 2016
This game is extremely addictive, And very well made. Good job! Just a thought, could you mabye add in custom levels? So you can make your own? Thanks!
April 08, 2016
Haha why thank you. On the subject of custom levels, I do have it on my list of things to do, and it will hopefully be in the next update. Once you earn 5 stars on every level, you will be able to unlock the Level Creator! At least that's what I'm planning. It's proving to be quite the difficult task so far XD. Nonetheless, thanks so much for commenting! I really appreciate it.
April 08, 2016
It's okay, and your welcome :)
April 08, 2016
Afternoon BackTrackers! We've got a new update today! This one was a huge pain to get out XD, but I'm ultimately very happy with how it turned out. I hope you guys enjoy it, as the next one won't be for a while.
April 02, 2016
Nice update. I like the results screen. Is it a separate scene, or overlay? I would suggest making an overlay if it's not already. Also one addition, I would make it have a retry button in case you want to play again without going to level select. And also maybe show how many retries it took, and what your best number is so far.
April 02, 2016
Funny enough, the Results Screen was originally an overlay when I first made it. But it was pretty buggy as an overlay, so I had to move it to a separate scene. Overlays seem a bit messed up for me, so I don't use them often... Anyway, I do really like the idea of adding a retry button and showing the amount of retries it took! I don't know why I didn't think of that before XD
April 02, 2016
I was gonna say you should've added a retry button, just like what Murtaza said, but perhaps you should also change the level select text to a button.
Basically: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔠↩️➡️ ✅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ↩️➡️ Level Select ❌
April 04, 2016
We are fixing issues related to saving and loading from overlays... so hopefully your issues will be fixed in the next update!
April 04, 2016
Oh awesome! Thanks so much Hamed! I have some issues with the Results Screen being a separate scene, as I can't have a retry button (it just restarts the Results Screen, instead of the actual level). So hopefully those gripes will be resolved. Nonetheless, I look forward to the update!
April 04, 2016
If your results screen is not an overlay, then restarting the scene isn't what you want to do. Instead you probably want to Load a certain level instead.
April 04, 2016
Yeah... Now that I think about it, I could have a system of "If"s and "Save to File"s to load the level you were last at in order to give the illusion of a retry. That could take a while to pull off, and it might be kindof difficult... I might just wait for the update instead XD.
April 01, 2016
I love the new update! It's really satisfying getting all the stars. Great job! Though, while playing Level 2 in a play through, the pause button wouldn't work. I'm not sure exactly how it was caused, but you should probably look into it. Sorry if that doesn't help much... Keep up the good work (yet again)!
Ok, I think I'm done commenting for today.
April 01, 2016
Happy April Fools! It's time for an update! This was a pain to get out... But I will spare you the details and just let you dig in! This was quite a heftily requested update, so I hope you guys like it! As per usual, thanks for your awesome comments and suggestions! You guys always brighten up my day :D
April 01, 2016
Sometimes when playing a level, the star counter will get stuck. What I mean by that is when I play a level, respawn, the star counter stays at 4 no matter how many times I restart. Also, have you considered making a level editor for this game? Keep up the good work (again)!
April 01, 2016
Yeah XD sorry about that. I didn't know about the glitch until after I put it up a few days ago. But worry not, the next update (which should hopefully come out today) will include a fix for that. And I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the level editor idea! While it might be hard to pull off, I think that would be fantastic!
April 01, 2016
Yeah! I wonder how it could work, though. Maybe a flying blue square that can go anywhere, and when you press one of the assets on the toolbar, it spawns it on the blue square?
April 01, 2016
That would be just like Geometry Dash lol. I'm pretty sure you wanted to take a bit of a different route, but if you make a level editor, it would be awesome if you can come up with something that works as well as their editor-something different!
I have a very broad idea. Why not make it so that you could edit the levels that you made. So, once they beat your level, they unlock the level creation for that level. Then they could move objects around on a grid, and play around with the color and design. You could make like a toolbar and have them use its features to manipulate your level, and eventually you could make it so that they could publish it to like this arcade. The Hyperpad team said they were working on that!
April 01, 2016
Ooo that sounds awesome! Or mabye if you 5-star every level, you unlock a "level creator" or something. It wouldn't be hard to make a sub-editor, (just use a lot of drag and drops), but it might be a pain to save the specific layout of the level you've made. That would be A LOOOOT of file saving and file loading to points XD. And in a later hyperpad update, they can post their own level to the hub! That would be so cool!!!
April 01, 2016
Actually, you'd have to make your own sort of "hub" thing. I was using that as an example. The 5-star thing diffenitely sounds good though. That way it'll definitely increase the retry value and people will be beating your level and playing it over, over, over, over... Lol... Are you thinking of publishing to the App Store when you're done by the way?
April 01, 2016
Oh so that's what you meant haha. That would be cool too though! On the subject of publishing the game, I do hope to eventually publish it when it's refined and I've made about 20 or so levels. I haven't subscribed to be a Pro Member yet, but I will eventually. I'm still in school, so I don't exactly have piles of money to spend. A job as a cashier can only provide so much XD
March 29, 2016
I really like it. I like the graphics and music and, how did you make the music?
March 30, 2016
I made the music on a fine little app called DefleMask. It can almost flawlessly replicate the sounds of older video game systems like the NES, Game Boy, SEGA Genesis, SEGA Megadrive, and PC Engine. It's a fantastic app if you want to compose an old school song, and you can get it for free on any computer. Also, thanks for commenting :D
March 30, 2016
Your welcome and thank you for answering my question :D
March 29, 2016
It definitely looks cool, but I don't understand how the star rating works. The first time I cleared level 1 I got 4 stars, the second time I got 2 😑
March 29, 2016
I'm sorry haha. Every time you beat a level, the score saves over the previous one, and doesn't keep your best score. The system itself is in the early stages, so it's kinda weird... The update I have planned for later this week will make the system keep your best score, instead of just continuously saving over it XD.
March 29, 2016
But how does the score work? I can't get 5 stars on any levels
March 30, 2016
You have to beat the level with very few retries. It shows you how many stars you can potential earn in the top right corner. If you beat the level, that's how many you will earn. Otherwise watch that go down as you keep losing.
March 30, 2016
Well that's kind of weird. I think it would make more sense for there to be three stars: 1. Beat the level 2. Beat it with the least jumps 3. Collect some kind of object
The way it kind of discourages replaying levels
March 30, 2016
(Sorry, accidentally pressed post) The way it is now kind of discourages replaying levels and makes it impossible to improve your score.
March 30, 2016
I didn't expect this XD. I'm sorry if I caused some confusion with the Star-Rating system... It just counts down the stars (1 retry= 4 stars, 3 retry= 3 stars, 7 retry= 2 stars, 10 retry= 1 stars) depending on how many times you had to retry. So if you want 5 stars, you have to beat the level flawlessly on the first try. I held off on making it complicated by putting specific requirements for the stars, and wanted to keep it simple. I want to keep the simple goal of the game intact: get to the green block. While the process of getting to it may not be simple (it's usually not haha), I want players to have one central goal on their minds.
March 30, 2016
Yes, but it is unreasonable to expect anyone to get every level on their first try, and there is no way to go back and try for a better star rating. This makes it pretty much impossible to get 5 stars. Maybe it's just me but often with games like this I like getting all the objectives/achievements, and it's a bit weird that it becomes impossible to get 5 stars after losing the level because you can't retry for a better score. Maybe don't do exactly what I said but I don't really like the current star system. I still like the game though 😀
March 30, 2016
You make a fair point... I might change/ tweak the system a bit and try to work that stuff out. I do appreciate the suggestions though :D. And thank you for expressing your concern.
March 30, 2016
Personally, I think it's fine. The point of star systems is to add reply value. Yes, it is unreasonable for some one to get 5 stars on their first try. But that the point. They'l; beat it with a lower amount and move on to beat the other levels. Eventually they'll beat all the levels (hopefully... if they find the game good) and they want more. So they'll go back and try to beat the levels with fewer retries, and earn more stars.
Just like Angry birds. In angry birds there isn't any thing to collect, it goes purely on points and amount of birds used. If you can meet the point threshold by using a single bird you'll get 3 stars (perfect).
But this is something you'll have to test. There is no right answer here. You'll have to see what way your players like most and go with that. The beauty of hyperPad is that you can quickly try things and get community feedback :).
March 30, 2016
You make a fair point as well... I'm so conflicted on what to do XD. I should really look to other games (like Angry Birds) for inspiration more often. I've definately gotta do some thinking about this though haha.
March 30, 2016
I sort of agree with what you said, Murtaza. I misunderstood how the star rating worked an thought that if you leave and come back to a level your retries are saved and loaded again. It's better than I thought and quite possible to get five stars, but now I think it's too easy (😑) because you can just leave the level and open it again every time. A system like geometry dash could work where there are three coins to collect, but ultimately it's up to you (SpectralAves).
March 30, 2016
I think coins could be a good addition.. But what you could do is add coins as a separate game mode. Or if you ever decide to put this in the App Store, you can make it a future update for the game to make it feel fresh and new and bring back some old players who may have not played in a while.
Another cool additional game enhancement could be some challenges that you have to do. This again creates replay value even if people have already played and beaten the core game. Jetpack Joyride does this amazingly well. I have played wayyy to much of that game simply because of the challenges.
March 30, 2016
Ooo I actually really like that idea. Especially the "separate game mode" idea. But I do want BackTrack to be different from Geometry Dash. Funny enough, all the people I've shown the game to have compared it to Geometry Dash XD. Perhaps I could do something else that isn't coins, but with the same basic idea. I dunno.
March 30, 2016
It is similar to geometry dash with the one button jump, but it's different with the part where you have to do it backwards (although you could do that with the geometry dash level editor)
April 01, 2016
This is the only place I can post this, as you have to (apparently) be a pro to message people. I was trying to import a sound effect, and when I tried importing it, it said it couldn't find the source file and didn't work. I then left hyperpad and came back in to find that BACKTRACK WAS DELETED FROM MY PROJECT LIST FOR SEEMINGLY NO REASON. Four days of work that I was going to release TODAY is now 100% GONE. Is there anything I can do about this? I feel absolutely terrible right now and don't know what to do...
April 01, 2016
This isn't an April fools joke, right? That sounds so unlucky if it's true🙁. If you go to the learn tab you can press personal support and contact them there. Have you checked all your other files to make sure it isn't just the name being overwritten, and have you tried restarting hyperpad because there is a bug where the projects don't update their display although I haven't seen it happen like that. I hope you can get it back. I would recommend not deleting any other projects just in case because I did once have a weird bug on gamepress where my game was renamed to "levels" or something and had nothing in it, and then when I deleted that and restarted gamepress it was there again and called assets... Have you had this bug before?
April 01, 2016
I honestly wish it was joke... But alas, it's not. When I exited hyperpad, and came back in, the game was gone. Straight up gone. For no reason. At least I can re-download the current version via the hub. I'll just redo everything I did in the last 4 days today... I can remember what I did, so I'll try my best to recreate it. Thanks so much for your help though :)
I've calmed down a bit now... But no matter what happens, I will try my hardest to make sure the update gets out today.
April 01, 2016
You should definitely send a bug report to stop this from happening again. It's good that you can do it again faster than originally. Good luck!
April 01, 2016
Did you have cloud backups? Click the hamburger bars in the project page and click on my cloud backups to check.
April 01, 2016
Can you send us a support email? Best way to get these sorted, or figure out whats going on.
From the learn tab select personal support.
Also did you have automatic backups on? The purpose of that feature is to protect you incase things like this happen. With software there are always potential bugs we don't know about, or bugs introduced by the OS. That's why we worked hard on getting the backups feature in hyperPad!
April 01, 2016
If you have backups enabled, then you can simply restore to the last time you exited the editor (Save and quit). To restore from a backup simply go to the hyperPad menu and select "My Cloud Backups". This will show each project, and a time stamped version for each allowing you to restore to any one of those.
April 01, 2016
Idiotically, I didn't actually have cloud backups on for BackTrack XD. Well at least it is now... I'll send that support email right away.
April 01, 2016
Just wondering, what is your iOS version and when did you last update? I'm still on 9.1 and I'm not sure whether to update. I hate being in new versions of iOS because I can't play any emulators.
April 01, 2016
I'm actually still on IOS 7. I personally thing there are too many restrictions on the later IOS updates, and I just don't want to deal with them. IOS 7 has everything I could ever possibly need. Plus, I do love me some Emulation XD
April 01, 2016
iOS 7 might be the reason it's glitchy. I'm not sure but it's possible that you are the only one using iOS 7 and so the only one how would find bugs specific to that iOS. Although maybe it's a general hyperpad bug.
March 29, 2016
Great update! Few things
The stars progress save even if I did worse then before. I beat a level perfect (5 stars). It saved. Later played again, only managed 3 stars. but it overwrote my 5 star. You should put an IF in there to check IF the current score is greater or equal than the previous saved one, and only save when that's true.
When I beat a level, show a pop up with how well I did and a next button to automatically go to the next level (think angry birds). You really want the player to feel rewarded, so put some emphases on the stars. One cool thing some games do is that make the stars appear individually with a cool effect to really make the user feel awesome for getting them.
Your pause menu is really ugly! I'm not a big fan of the gradient background/buttons. Make it sort of like the levels screen, the same style box around "Levels" surround your pause buttons.
March 29, 2016
Thanks so much for the suggestions Murtaza! First, for the Star-Rating system, I wanted to just release this update with the WIP version of the system first to see what people thought. But I'll include the full system in a later update. Second, I absolutely LOVE the idea of emphasizing the stars like Angry Birds does, and I will definately put that in the next update. Third, I'm sorry about the pause menu haha. I'll definately fix that and make it better next time XD.
March 28, 2016
This is the worst update ever!
Just Kidding! I'm so impressed and can't express in words how amazing this is! The fact that you did all of this in one week... My mind will explode.... I'm surprised it hasn't yet lol....
Keep working on it and further impressing me! Great job!
March 28, 2016
Oh my god thanks sooo much XD. That's literally the nicest thing I've heard in a long time! Nonetheless, I'm so glad you like the update, and I certainly wasn't expecting that reaction XD. Another update should be coming out later this week that includes the last 2 levels and a new block type.
March 29, 2016
Great, I meant it because that was fabulous! Trust me, I know how much work stuff like graphics and particles takes.
March 28, 2016
Update time! As per request, there is now a Star-Rating system for each level (1-5 stars)! I've also added 2 more levels and a few more things (read the description). Thanks one again for your amazing comments and suggestions. I literally can't thank you guys enough.
March 22, 2016
VERY SMOOTH! How do you make those graphics?
March 22, 2016
Thanks dude! I designed every graphic on a little app called "Sprite Something". It's a very fun, easy, and suprisingly professional application for doing sprite work, and I would highly recommend it.
March 23, 2016
Thanks!
March 21, 2016
I really love the the graphics in this game. Everything feels pretty polished. The main mechanic is done well, and It's fun! I could see this in the App Store. Keep up the good work, Spectral!
March 21, 2016
Thanks so much dude! That's a very nice thing to say, and Im glad you enjoy it :) Speaking of which, a new update should be coming out soon that has more levels and more stuff in general.
March 19, 2016
I love the new look! But, what happened to levels 5, 6, 7, 8? I'm pretty sure I already tried out a few of them! Also, it feels a bit easier now that you've changed the levels a bit. I know that was your goal, but you really need to keep the rage or add that in until it's crazy in your upcoming levels! Lastly, I recommend making unlocking levels, and I don't know if I already recommended this or your planning this, but I think it's really important. Keep at it!
March 19, 2016
Thanks dude! I actually removed a few levels, as they still have the old textures on them, and I haven't fixed them yet. I was just eager to get this update out haha. And yes, I did make it easier. I just wanted to let beginning players get used to the game by having a gradual climb in difficulty. So don't worry, the upcoming levels will be crazy and rage-inducing XD. On the subject of unlockable levels, i plan to add them soon, but I'm having trouble with the behaviors. I'm not sure if the game will remember which levels each player has unlocked if they, for instance, quit the game (from the hub) and come back later. Nonetheless, thanks so much for taking the time to comment!
March 19, 2016
I actually just finished with the saving for my game lol. For it to save, you have to use the save and load behaviors and make sure that you're doing the saving in a global object, so that each time you play the level you can trigger the saving behavior based off of something in the scene. For example, I put my behaviors in a label. It saves the label, and I set the label before saving it.
Every time somebody launches a project over again from the hub, or even from the app screen of their iPad, if you publish this, it will automatically be saved, and you can use some simple if behaviors to unlock certain levels. Hope that clears it up! By the way, in the future, savingw I'll be ten times easier in Hyperpad. That's what it says in their roadmap, at least.
March 19, 2016
That sounds perfect! I'm alittle rusty with the save/ load behaviors, but I'm sure I can manage. Thanks so much for being so incredibly helpful. I've probably said that too many times already, but I can't express it enough XD.
March 19, 2016
Glad to help! When I see something that has potential, I feel like I just want to be part of it as much as possible, and this has potential! Definitely!
March 19, 2016
Really liking the new update and new look! Feels petty polished! My suggestions:
I would introduce a star rating for how easily the player beats a level. 3 stars if they beat on the first or second try, 2 stars for 5 tries, and 1 star for any thing else. I actually thought the little + icon under each level was the star rating, but it wasn't. This creates replay value, and some internal competition.
your pause menu is pretty ugly. The text colours just don't flow with the rest of the look.
March 19, 2016
Thanks so much for the suggestions Murtaza! The icons below each level were actually meant to be difficulty ratings (1-5 stars), but I like your idea of having a star rating system much better. And thanks for telling me about the pause screen. I'll definately change that in the next update XD.
March 18, 2016
New update time (again)! This update has loads of suggested features, (pause button, level select screen, changed color palette). As per usual, leave a comment if you want to see anything changed or fixed. And, of course, thanks SOO much for the support and suggestions. See you next update!
March 14, 2016
EEERMAGERD I only got to level three, this is a surprisingly enjoyable rage game.
March 15, 2016
Thanks dude! I actually intended for it to be a rage game, but I might make it a bit easier. It's good to know that people still enjoy it even though it's a rage game haha. Thanks so much for commenting!
March 14, 2016
Well, I wasn't able to get past level 3, it stopped counting and told me to take a break, which I though was clever. So either I'm really bad, or it was too hard. Both are very possible. I like it though, and I would gladly download it for free and suffer through ads to play it.
March 15, 2016
Haha thanks dude. People seem to have a lot of trouble with it, so I might make it easier in the next update. I even have trouble with it myself, and had to try over 100 times to beat level 6... But nonetheless, thank you for taking the time to comment. And I see you found the "take a break" Easter egg XD.
March 13, 2016
Nice update man!
I'd recommend working on just a few things and then this is golden:
Graphics? I like the new look, but some of your previous graphics don't fit in anymore. To be honest, I liked the other look more... I love the particles coming out of the character, but both he character and those particles don't fit anymore. Hamed showed me this amazing color website. If you check out my game "Exactly" you'll see in the comments a link to "LOL Colors." They have amazing color themes.
Would recommend a screen where you can go back to and pick levels that you've already unlocked. You've worked so hard on all these levels, and the user can only see them once. And, when they're done with all the levels... Well, you get what I'm saying.
Okay, good luck! You should work on the levels you already have A LOT before diving into the other levels because everything you have to change is multiplied.
March 13, 2016
Thanks for commenting! I never actually thought about color schemes, and you really opened my eyes. I'll definately check out "LOL Colors" and tweak a few things. Thanks again dude, I appreciate it.
March 13, 2016
Glad to help!
March 13, 2016
BackTrack returns! Thank you guys for commenting and leaving such wonderful advice! You guys are the reason why I came back to this game, and I can't thank you enough for that.
If anyone has a question about the game or a suggestion to add/ change something, leave a comment, and I will answer you as soon as I can!
March 11, 2016
Lots of fun. Fix the bug in level three, add 50 more levels and take @Andrey Ghost suggestion and I'd pay money for this.
January 02, 2016
Can you make more levels for this? I could see this being a great hit, and all the figuring out is already done, so it wouldn't take as long.
November 19, 2015
There is a bug on level three where you fall through floor and just go through the wall. But it's a realy cool game in every other way.
November 19, 2015
Wait that's already been done by creator in comments oops
November 15, 2015
Looks cool. But man, you're losing a lot by don't letting square jump on the top of crates. Maybe you should add second crate that doesn't destroy square if it jumps on top.
November 15, 2015
awesome and cute game! 🙂
November 15, 2015
If anyone accidentally falls through the floor while casually playing, I'm sorry... I have no idea why this happens... Just a small warning.
November 15, 2015
Pretty awesome game! Really addictive and frustrating! If you had ~30 or so levels, I could see this being in the App store!
