PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Share this project:

Robo Blue is a work in progress built using hyperPad version 1.18.

A massive space transport ship is floating through the black void without power. Your task is to guide an engineering robot through sections of the ship, leading it to power switches.

Additional information about the game can be found on the Forums. Thank you in advance for any suggestions on how to make the game better.

VERSION 2.0

Last Updated: September 21, 2022

Updates include nearly all of the behaviors being redone to take advantage of new options and to make it easier to modify the overall game code in the future; drag-and-snap mechanics to clean up the physics and to make it much simpler to repeat an action icon set-up; new graphics for the terrain and backgrounds; and revised/added levels (which now go through level 9).

Good game. Just a little glitchy around level 2.

May 02, 2019

Fantastic graphics.

Fun game.

Well done.

January 29, 2019

Hyperpad updates seem to have broken the game, objects disappear when placed

Good game!

March 25, 2018

More levels plz

June 29, 2018

I agree

September 12, 2017

I have an idea! Maybe have an arrow that points down, and makes the bot ground pound, to make him fall faster?

August 20, 2017

Cool game you made. How do you create the option to turn off all sounds like you did in this game?

August 20, 2017

Thanks. I used a "Sound Status" variable that switches between 0 (sounds off) and 1 (sounds on) depending on the selection by the player. Any time a sound is to be triggered the game checks the status of the "Sound Status" variable using an If behavior: If Sound Status = 1. As long as this is true, the sound is played. I'm happy to answer additional questions about this if you'd like further clarification.

August 21, 2017

Thx for your reply. If I need any more help, I'll let you know

August 22, 2017

Actually I do have another question. What behaviour did you use to change the sound status value? Was it "add to score", or something else?

August 31, 2017

I ended up saving the sound status variable so that it would be maintained each time the game was opened. When the sound on/off icon is touched then a Save to File behavior is used to update the value of the saved sound status.

Hi, sorry for bothering you again after it’s been such a long time but I have another problem. First of all I just wanted to say thank you for your advice. I used it and it worked. However, when I go to a different scene, the sound goes back to default. How can I get it to stay the same? If it helps, I made the sound option on an overlay. Should I have not done that or is that fine?

So cool great idea!

June 29, 2017

This game is amazing. I love the idea! This needs to be in the App Store! I like how it is a combination of coding (kind of) and a game!

June 30, 2017

I'm glad you like it. The App Store is a goal once it has some more levels!

June 03, 2017

I really like the update, and the enhancements are great! I just wish the loading time wasn't as big...

May 20, 2017

I played through them all and I thought I got 3 cogs every level, but when I looked at the level select I didn't have them on level 4, so I played it again, definitely got 3 cogs, but then when I looked at the level select again it still said 2 cogs.

May 20, 2017

Thanks for letting me know. I'll check on that.

May 20, 2017

Nice update! Can't wait to see more levels!

May 19, 2017

Nice update, well chosen graphic!

May 19, 2017

I forgot to mention in the project description that the Robo Blue Construction Kit available on the Hub is still applicable to v2.0, so if you make any levels with it that you'd like to share they can potentially be added to the main game.

March 21, 2017

Love it!

February 07, 2017

Is this game ever going to get an update (question mark)

February 07, 2017

That it is. It's been on hold waiting for a bug fix in the new version, but since that was just released I'm back to working on it.

November 26, 2016

Do you think we can use the gears we collect in the levels to get extra stuff

Maybe a costume, more levels, etc. that will be pretty cool if that was a thing.

November 27, 2016

Thanks for the suggestion. I am planning to require a certain number of gears to allow progression to the next set of levels. Having different skins for the robot sounds like fun, though. I'm considering including extra tasks for the levels, like completing them within a certain amount of time or with a certain amount of energy left... Maybe completing those could earn the player a spendable resource.

November 25, 2016

Hi all -- The Robo Blue Construction Kit is now available on the Hub if you like to try building (and sharing) your own levels.

September 26, 2016

The gameplay is really good so far! I could play this all day if I had the time to do so. You should add more levels to the game soon! Maybe some hazards the player has to avoid?

September 26, 2016

I'm glad y are enjoying the game. I do have some barriers and complications planned and will absolutely be adding more levels once I finish updated some of the core code.

September 23, 2016

Congrats on getting featured!

September 26, 2016

Thank you. It was quite the fun surprise to discover that!

September 26, 2016

I bet!

September 23, 2016

This is really awesome. I think it could use some music in the future.

September 23, 2016

I agree; music is needed. I had a piece that worked well back when it was "Hench" but I have yet to find something that feels right with the new theme...

September 19, 2016

You did a great job with the theme and the gameplay is great! It would cool if the drag and drop arrow things(I forgot what you called them) had grid snapping.

September 19, 2016

Ahhh, now that's a good idea. I like the freedom of being able to put the action icons anywhere but very small shifts in location can have major impacts on the outcome. I'll take a shot at finding a grid snap resolution that maintains some of that versatility but also makes it easier to achieve reproducible results when you place the icons. Thanks!

September 19, 2016

Yeah it could just be a small grid.

September 18, 2016

I managed to get 0 cog wheels on a level (was trying to to see what would happen) and it tells you you've won by saying you've restored power but it acts as though you haven't completed it, not allowed to play next level.

September 18, 2016

Oh never mind i did that on level 5 and level 6 doesn't exist yet. It's probably fine then.

September 18, 2016

Ah, yes, that would do it. Thanks for testing things out to see what might happen. You find anything that breaks, let me know!

September 18, 2016

I love it! One thing is for the levels. Are those multiple graphics that make the level designs?

September 18, 2016

Thanks! I've just posted a response to your question under the Blue Robo topic in the WIP section of the hyperPad forums so that I could include an image. The short answer is yes, they are multiple graphics / tiles.

September 18, 2016

Awesome game, love the puzzles. Perfect update to Hench 👍. I'm also really enjoying the level of posh, every thing has a sound, effect, transition. Great job! I can definitely see this in the App Store when you're done.

One thing I noticed, your loading screen is off centre.

September 18, 2016

Thanks! I'm betting the loading screen issue is a hold-over from when I switched the design set-up from iPhone to iPad. I'll get that fixed.

September 17, 2016

Something I really wish I did better was create themes. For example, your theme is obviously robot/future themed. I was wondering if you had any ideas for what I could do to my game, My Army Is Better, in terms of graphics and conveying information more smoothly? Might be a stupid question, but I simply create regular rectangle buttons whereas yours are associated to a specific theme. Great game by the way. Definitely Apple Store worthy.

September 18, 2016

Thanks! Figuring out how you want to handle theme can be a lot of work but it is worth it in the end. I just posted some thoughts on theme (and a couple ideas related to MAIB) in a topic called Establishing Theme under the General Discussion section of the hyperPad forum. Hopefully some part of that write-up will be useful!

September 17, 2016

Wow, I could probably play this all day!

September 18, 2016

That's always a good sign. :)

September 17, 2016

Awesome game now just make more levels Best game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 18, 2016

Thanks for the support!

September 17, 2016

Great Concept and GFX. Well done.

September 17, 2016

Thanks! Learning how to create these graphics has taken me a while but has been fun. What you see here is the third or fourth iteration of most of these images.

September 17, 2016

Woah! This'll be one of the best projects on Hyperpad quite soon! Are there 5 levels so far? After the 5th level it directed me back to the beginning. The simplistic art style is amazing, and the level concepts are original. The overall concept, of course, is based off of your Gamepress classic - "Hench!" I was waiting for something similiar! I'll keep my eye out for updates, of course! Good luck! Great job!

September 17, 2016

Thanks! "Hench" it is, though with a few upgrades. :) And yes, there are only 5 levels active. I have a major coding overhaul planned before building additional levels and so I figured it would be good to get some feedback on the game play before tackling that.
